How much do lawyers make?

The average salary of a lawyer depends on a few factors like: experience, field of specialization, size of the firm, location of working employers.

Experience.

1 – 5 years: $70,000 – $125,000
6 – 10 years: $95,000 – $150,000
11 or more years: up to $170,000

Field of specialization

Management of companies and enterprises: $151,820
Legal services: $116,550
Federal Executive Branch: $126,080
Local government: $89,320
State government: $78,540

Size of the firm or Company

Lawyers who get positions in large national firms have a much higher starting salary than those working for smaller or in local government.

Location of working

For example, the annual salary for lawyers working in New York State is $145,400, while for those in New Jersey is $123,210.
